I had occasion to visit with a particular family some time ago. Now, normally when I had visited this particular home in the past, there were two to three different televisions in different rooms all blaring away at a ridiculously high volume. However, on this particular day there had been a car accident the evening before, which had caused a major problem with the cable T.V. system in the area. So, for a change, the home was pleasantly quiet, and of course we could all hear each other as we talked without shouting.
This was indeed a wonderful surprise for me, and I enjoyed talking at a reasonable level, whilst being able to easily hear everything that was said, without having to say, can you turn down the volume on the T.V.
However, although I was immensely happy with the situation, the people who lived in the house appeared to be totally devastated, particularly the young children, who really appeared to be in a state of shock with no television to watch. The children actually reminded me of 'Junkies', of drug addicts as they suffered from withdrawal symptoms. The kids literally did not know what to do, they appeared to be at a complete loss as to how they could amuse themselves without their 'Fix', their non-stop television.
When I suggested that they read a book, or get a ball and go out in the garden to play, a look of utter horror came across their worried faces, as they reminded me more and more of drug addicts suffering withdrawal symptoms. I concluded, that we are in the process of, if we haven't already, producing a world full of 'Zombies' who it would appear are absolutely incapable of normal interaction with each other....what utter madness!
I heard recently of a study undertaken by Hewlett-Packard the computer manufacturer which concluded, that by using a whole lot of technical gadgets which are available today like T.V's, computers, and cellular phones, on a continual basis, over time it is causing the average person's I.Q., Intelligent Quotient to fall by ten points. Now remember, this important information was gleaned by a study undertaken by the giant computer manufacturer Hewlett-Packard.
In it my opinion, that we must not allow the young people in our care to spend their whole days either watching television, on the internet, playing computer games, or texting on cell phones, for in the process we are creating a world full of 'Zombies' we really are!
Parents and Guardians please take note, and thus ensure that the children in your care do not become 'Zombies', that is of course, if they haven't already.
THINK ABOUT IT!
