Learn how to keep your skin beautiful

Her amiable smile can light up any room, but what is most remarkable about young Betsy Sweeting is her passion for perfection which has catapulted her to the top of her field in skin care. As an aesthetician at Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island's Red Lane Spa for the past nine years, Betsy has mastered her craft by taking refresher courses in skin care as well as conducted continuous research in revolutionary beauty and facial techniques.

Betsy received her formal training at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute under one of the country's best skin care instructors, Ms. Pamela Thompson, who she said told her to always take pride in what she does, and to always do it to the best of her ability.

Upon completion of the course in 2000, Betsy began working at Red Lane Spa. She received additional in-depth training with one of Sandals resorts' top aestheticans in Jamaica.

Betsy says no two clients are the same, and no two skin will be the same, and she treats every client as a unique individual and so are their facial and skin care needs. The one myth she would like to dispel from the minds of people with color is that they don't need sunscreen because they are of dark complexion. She says all skin color needs protection from the sun, and she tries to educate and keep her clients informed because the appearance of their skin is a reflection of her.

Betsy's interest in beauty started at an early age with the usual haphazard, awkward application of make-up and the usual zits and pimples that accompany the teenage years. "I remember at age 15 concentrating all my attention on achieving the perfect skin, hair and nails." Betsy said as people age, there is no reason why they can't have a complexion that they are proud of. Through a daily skin care regimen, this can be accomplished.

Among the services that Betsy performs at Red Lane Spa are facials, waxing, body scrubs and body wraps, and she plans to share all of her beauty and skin care tips with you through her weekly column in The Nassau Guardian, as she tells you how to nurture and take care of your skin.

If you have a question pertaining to skin care or a beauty regime, you may email Betsy at jshilton@grp.sandals.com.
