Hard shell — soft center

I'm quite sure, that just about everyone has had occasion to eat a candy, that was hard on the outside; however, once you took a bit of it, the center was full of a soft filling which you enjoyed so much. As I sucked on one of these kinds of candies one day, I began to reflect on the fact, that a whole lot of people are like candies. Now, I can just imagine some of my readers saying to themselves right now, what exactly do you mean by that D. Paul, saying that some people are like candies? Well, what I mean is this.

There are a whole lot of people, who appear at first glance to be real tough, hard if you will on the outside, on the outward surface of their personality; and yet when you pierce their outer, protective veneer, you find out that they are really soft inside, they really are 'Teddy Bears'. Yes My Friend, a whole lot of people are presenting to the world, to those around them, an extremely cold, tough, hard exterior. And yet when we really get to know them and they, as we say finally let their guard down for a while, we get to see and sense the 'Real Person' who is so very sweet and indeed most likable, just like a huggable, soft 'Teddy Bear'.

Now, what I'd like to concentrate on here today for a moment is this. The reason why so many people appear to be so very hard on the surface, is that at some point in time, they were hurt real bad and are thus quite vulnerable. This is why they present themselves to the world initially with a tough exterior, as a protection mechanism.

Another reason why a whole lot of people appear to be so very hard on the surface, is that they have low self-esteem. That's right, so often when a person has low self-esteem and thus does not in fact feel too good about themselves, they will put on a front, so to speak, they will project to others that they're really tough, they project a hard, so often completely cold appearance to others. With these types of people, it takes a considerable amount of time for them to finally let their guard down, their outer shield if you will, so it does take quite some time for you to actually get to know and fully understand the 'Real Person', the person within.

Now My Friend, do you perhaps have a 'Hard Shell'? If the answer to that most important question is in the affirmative, you definitely need to find out the reasons why you have a hard shell. Incidentally, this may require the assistance of a professionally trained counselor, or clinical hypnotherapist.
