Simple but profound

By d. Paul Reilly:

I have been slowly reading a most wonderful book titled '10 secrets for success and inner peace', which I know we're all seeking, written by one of my all time favorite teachers Dr. Wayne Dyer. Yesterday, I read The Seventh Secret which is 'There are no justified resentments'. When I had finished the short chapter, I immediately wrote down the title of this article 'Simple but profound'.

Let me now quote the opening lines of that chapter. "You hear people say this all the time: "I have a right to be upset because of the way I've been treated. I have a right to be angry, hurt, depressed, sad, and resentful". Learning to avoid this kind of thinking is one of my top ten secrets for living a life of inner peace, success, and happiness. Anytime you're filled with resentment, you're turning the controls of your emotional life over to others to manipulate".

My Friend, you've got to agree with me, that that is indeed 'Simple but profound'. Now, do you realize the absolute futility of holding onto, and trying to justify resentment, hate, or bitterness toward others? I sincerely hope that the answer to that important question is a very loud YES, for all would-be-achievers who wish to live in a state of inner peace.

A very long time ago Marcus Aurelius said "The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts....take care that you entertain no matters unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature". Oh how absolutely true that obviously is! Yes indeed, there's no doubt about it, there are no justified resentments, as Dr. Dyer so wisely stated in his book. Here's one final brief quote from Dr. Dyer's book "You practice forgiveness for two reasons, One is to let others know that you no longer wish to be in a state of hostility with that person; and two, to free yourself from the self-defeating energy of resentment. Resentment is like venom that continues to pour through your system, doing its poisonous damage long after being bitten by the snake, it's not the bite that kills you; it's the venom. You can remove venom by making a decision to let go of resentments. Send love in some form to those whom you feel have wronged you and notice how much better you feel, how much more peace you have".

My Friend, have you got it? Do you fully understand how 'Simple but Profound' today's message really is? I sincerely hope so, for as I wrote about way back in this series 'Hate only hurts the Hater'. So, please forgive those whom you perceive have done you wrong, and send them a large helping of unconditional love. This then is the way to peace!
