Wearable, one-of-a-kind jewelry with personality

By STAFF WRITER, Nassau Guardian

A painter uses a brush to capture the human spirit. A sculptor molds shapes that emulate a personality. Designer, Marlaina Stone, is using a new medium that captures both. Her designs are wearable art, one-of-a-kind couture jewelry with a personality. "Old-time glamour is my style," says Marlaina. "I put a new twist on 40s fashion."

Marlaina Stone's couture necklaces and rings are big and bold, yet maintain a feminine sensuality. The intricate multiple weavings are her signature design. Marlaina Stone's ingredients include: scarce minerals, memorable stones and vibrant crystals. Each imbued with a point of view and a story. The designs are an extension of her. "I may have that rock and roll edge, but I'm still very soft," Stone says, "I am sophisticated, yet very feminine, and I think that shows in my jewelry."

Just as the necklaces are connected, the people who inspire the designs are connected to Marlaina. The same way the rings are forged, the characters that the pieces embody come from alchemy that only Marlaina Stone can accomplish. She even designed and personally handed a "Rock and Roll Jesus" ring to Kid Rock.

Marlaina Stone's jewelry was also inspired by living on the world ship that traveled throughout the Black and Mediterranean Seas. Marlaina has collected numerous stones and artifacts from around the world, bringing many ideas from each culture.

Marlaina's price points range $800 to $3500. Each design comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity and a special collector's box.

Her designs can be found at The Detroit Institute of Arts, Museum Shop. The Detroit Institute of Arts was established in 1885 and is home to one of the largest, most significant, prehistoric, multicultural, and multinational art collections in the United States. Marlaina's work can also be found at Art Leaders Gallery, in West Bloomfield, Michigan, which is voted the best fine arts gallery in Michigan and of the top fine arts galleries in the U.S. Bonnie Mansour, president of Art Leaders Gallery, said, "Marlaina's work is original, it's different, and it reminded me of jewelry sculptures. Personally, I fell in love with her work."

Marlaina's work can recently be found at The Cove Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas. The Cove Atlantis is owned and operated by Kerzner International, a leading developer and operator of destinations, resorts, casinos and luxury hotels.
