It just creeps up

By D. Paul Reilly:

Last night on television, I watched another edition of the eye-opening, and so often heart wrenching show 'Intervention' on The Arts & Entertainment (A & E) channel on TV. They told the story of a most likeable, lovable, good-1ooking, highly intelligent, hard working young man, who just loved to drink and party with his older(by a few years) brother. Of course, initially he was able to still function properly at his work. Then, tragedy struck his family as another brother was charged and convicted for first degree murder.

He and his partying brother moved to Hawaii, to supposedly start a new life, which turned out to be a life of continual beach parties, day after day. Eventually, he met a beautiful young lady, got married and had a child. Unfortunately, the child, a son was born prematurely and did not live but a few days. The young man was understandably devastated, and started to really hit the bottle big time in a desperate effort to drown his sorrows, so to speak. His wife became pregnant again, so he straightened up a little; but after his daughter was born, went back into his destructive daily drinking routine.

Finally, all of his family came to Hawaii and made an intervention. He went to a rehabilitation center and appeared to have become a totally new person. However, at the end of the program, it was stated that he had relapsed, got divorced and moved back to California where he was working in a vineyard, of all places. It was a very sad story, which I'll be honest with you, brought tears to my eyes, on several occasions.

Now, the real point which I wish to make here today, and indeed make loud and clear is this. This young man's problem with alcohol obviously did not happen overnight, so to speak; it happened over a period of quite some time, over several years. You see, this is the thing with alcoholism, drug addiction, or any form of addiction as the title of this article so correctly puts it 'It just creeps 'up'....it happens ever so gradually. At first, you're just, it would appear, having a so-called 'Good Time', but gradually, bit by bit, the drugs or alcohol seduce you, until one day before you know it you're 'Hooked'....you're an alcoholic or a junkie'.

My Friend, please, I implore you from the bottom of my heart, don't let this happen to you! Wake up BEFORE it's too late. Why not get high daily on the sheer beauty of God's world, and by reflecting on the knowledge, that you were created in His Image and after His likeness. This 'Natural High' will not destroy your life. Instead, it will literally take you to The Summit, as your soar like an eagle.

THINK ABOUT IT!
