Two days had past before Krystal Bodie was informed that she had set a new Bahamian junior national record in the 100 meters (m) hurdles.

Bodie lined up in the event on Saturday in the Old Miss May Invitational, hoping to lower her time has she turn her attention to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships, but a new record was never on her mind.

The freshman attending Southwest Mississippi Junior College, clocked 13.56 seconds for a second place finish behind Kasey McDaniel, who won in 13.43 seconds.

Bodie, who was informed of her achievement yesterday, was speechless at first but in the end summed up her remarkable performance as a gauge for better things in the future.

"Things are looking great, I guess, heading into nationals," said Bodie. "I have to just practice hard so I can execute my race because I want to drop my time. It feels pretty good to know that I set a new national junior record, but I am looking forward to lowering it come nationals. I have some goals set ahead so, hopefully it will all work out."

The time ran by Bodie is a personal and season's best time. The previous season's best time for her was a 13.71 seconds race ran in March of this year in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

She said: "Going into junior nationals, I want to be running around 13.20 or 13.30 and by the time as junior nationals, I want to drop my time to around 13.10 seconds. I have a goal and I have to practice hard for it. I have Tia Thompson, so she can assist me in reaching my goals set for senior nationals but it is all up to me to reach that goal. I have to put in the effort if I want to reach that goal or not, whether I have the competition there or not, so it is up to me."

Bodie also competed in the 100m at the meet where she finished eighth overall in 12.16 seconds. Also in the event was teammate Sheniqua Ferguson, who clocked 11.87 seconds for second place. Ferguson was also second in the 200m in 23.98 seconds. In the men's high jump, Bahamian Jamaal Wilson cleared 2.10m for the win.

At the Arkansas Twilight meet, held over the weekend in Arkansas, Thompson posted the fastest time by all the Bahamians in the 100m hurdles race. Her time of 13.57 seconds gave her a third place finish overall. Bahamian Alexandria Oembler followed in 15.00 seconds while Laneice Rolle turned in a time of 15.46 seconds. In the 200m, Laneice Rolle crossed the line in a time of 27.77 seconds for 19th overall. The winning time in the event was posted by Lashawn Wright, 23.95 seconds.

At the same meet, Deandrea Rolle finished 13th overall in the women's shot putt event with a heave of 10.55m. This was the only throw that was recorded, the first and third attempts were all ruled foul. The problems continued in the discuss throw for Deandrea Rolle, who wasn't able to land a mark in the event.
