On Saturday, January 21, 2008, Marc Shira and Neil Williams from Security and General presented team captains Anwar Elliot and Roman Knowles of the Security & General Buccaneers with a cheque for the 2008 Season.
Security and General has been the main sponsor of the Buccaneers Rugby Football Club since 2005. The money allows the club to pay for pitch fees and travel expenses, and to help with their youth development program. Since 2005 many students from Doris Johnson and St. Augustine's College have gone through the program and are now starters on the Men's side.
"We are very proud of the kids who have been a part of the club. We currently have the youngest team in the league and are able to give many of our youth and former youth players a lot of playing time. Security and General's sponsorship allows us to continue to help and develop these young kids as athletes and young men," said Club President Dorian Roach.
After the cheque was presented, the Buccaneers went on to beat the Cracked Conchs team, winning 22 12 with tries by Adam Girling, Dorian Butler and Phil Davis. Dorian Roach also added a drop kick, the first in the league for many years which was the highlight of the game. The Buccs take on Balliou on Saturday January 26th.
